Certified Caregiver/Personal Support Worker

 Personal Support Worker (PSW) consolidates and replaces the former Health Care Aide, Home Support Worker Levels I, II and III, Personal Attendant and Respite Worker training programs. The Government of Ontario approved the PSW program on April 28, 1997. The PSW is an unregulated health care worker.

The recognized or required certification or registration examination for the Personal Support Worker is offered through the National Association of Certified Caregivers/Personal Support Workers (NACPSW). Certification for PSWs is offered through the NACPSW and participating schools in curriculum standards. The PSW training is arranged in modules with two official exit points:

Personal Attendant – Completion of the first seven modules; responds to the needs of attendant care workers and the client they serve who wish to be active in directing their own care, and in training attendants to meet their individual needs. Students who wish to confine their role to basic homemaking may also exit the program after the first seven modules.

Personal Support Worker – Completion of the entire program (14 modules); responds to the needs of workers who require the full range of training to work with clients who have a wide variety of individual needs and varying degrees of ability to direct their services.

Bridging to Certification as a Personal Support Worker -is available for nurses, caregivers under the live-in-caregiver program federal initiative, former Health Care Aides.

Certified Caregiver/Personal Support Worker Training delivery standard is 1000 hours.

 

This is a standardized training program that may be delivered globally. It is a planned thoughtful approach to offering front line health care workers migration mobility in home care and hospitality services. These are workplace skills that are transferrable.

Community and Social Service Work Assistant

This course provides upgrading for those with previous experience in the field of community work or social agencies. This prepares you to work with or assist a qualified Social Worker in the community or social agencies. Social work involves dealing with and helping others in the managing of their lives and the solutions of their problems.

 

Components of Study:

·         Human Relations for Personal & Career Success

Human relations will help achieve better interpersonal relationships on the job, at home and in school.

·         Introduction to Social Work

This introduction to social work and social welfare offers a realistic view of social problems while providing positive strategies to help deal with issues and empower clients.

·         General Counselling: The Skilled Helper

This course looks at the counselling process, using a practical three stage helping model that drives client problem managing and opportunity developing action.

·         Addictions Treatment

This focuses on reality in the complex world of addictions. The framework makes it relevant to all heath professionals involved in the well being of individuals, families and communities.

·         Introduction to Psychology

This course enables students to understand the aims and contents of psychology as a distinct field of study within the social sciences.

·         Fundamentals of Case Management

This course empowers students to be able to function competently and to know why they are proceeding or should be proceeding with clients in a particular way.

 

Pharmaceutical Assistant

There is a growing demand for pharmaceutical assistants to work with a assist registered pharmacists in community and hospital clinics and retail pharmacies. Your duties may include the dispensing of drugs together with business operations, including record maintenance, pricing, inventory control and customer relations. Your course starts from basics and includes: human relations, medical terminology, keyboarding, pharmacy practice, anatomy and physiology, dosage calculations and pharmacology.. On successful completion of all subjects you will be awarded the CCS diploma “Pharmaceutical Assistant”.

·         The Human Body in Health & Illness: (Anatomy & Physiology)

This course provides an easy to understand approach to structure, function and disorders of the human body.

·         Medical Terminology: A Programmed Systems Approach

This course teaches students a word building system using and programmed learning format. Thousands of medical words may be built by using the Latin and Greek prefixes, suffices, and word roots from which our English medical terms originate.

Understanding Pharmacology for Health Professionals This course provides a complete overview of pharmacology. Students are provided with a comprehensive framework for drug recognition and drug usage. The content covers all of the need to know essentials from the history of drugs and the drug approval process to prescription and over the counter trade name and generic drugs for every body system.
Dosage Calculations This course is designed to allay math anxiety and promote confidence in student’s ability to perform accurate dosage calculations. The international system (SI) of units is used almost exclusively in reference with medication dosages and drug labels and the Canadian drug database. The student will learn to recognize and interpret drug labels and dosages.
